Ruth J. Allum - Head Instructor

Ruth is the head coach and trainer at Oakhurst Farm.  Ruth's commitment is to the total physical and mental preparation of both the rider and the horse in the sport of Eventing, is dedicated to coaching her more than 60 students at Oakhurst Farm.

Having competed herself at the Preliminary level, Ruth combines her real life experiences as an Eventer with formal training as an Equine Canada certified coach.  During her 14 years as a coach, Ruth has taken students from beginner levels to high levels of international competition. Whether her students are competing at the Entry or Advanced level, they still receive the benefit of Ruth's careful attention to detail in riding, conditioning, and building a strong horse and rider team.

Ruth's students have reached very high levels of excellence. She has coached a horse rider team to a place on the long list for the 2006 Canadian Eventing Team. Her students have excelled at North American Young Riders competitions and she currently has two students named on the Canadian Talent Squad. At the end of the 2006 season, Oakhurst Farm's show team had 49 horse & rider team members: 1 Advanced; 1 Intermediate; 3 Preliminary; 9 Training; 12 Pre-Training and 23 Entry.

Ruth continues to promote the sport of Eventing in Eastern Ontario by serving on the National Capital Horse Trials Association board. 

Lyndsey Young

Lyndsey has had the opportunity to event several different horses, gaining knowledge and experience from them all.  She is currently competing her gelding Miles From Ordinary, at the Pre-Training level and was the Eastern Ontario/Quebec Training level YR's Program Reserve Champion for 2002, on an Oakhurst raised horse named Spotlight on Broadway.  She is an EC Certified Level 1 Coach and has completed a degree in Equine Science at Kemptville College.


Megan Bird

A Pony Club Alumnus, Megan Bird started riding at the age of 10 in the hunter jumper ring, becoming an Eventer when she was 13. As an Eventer for over 10 yrs, Megan has successfully competed to the Training Level and is currently riding her horse Chico at Oakhurst Farm. Megan has an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph.  While at Guelph she was an Executive Member of the University of Guelph Equestrian Team, competing with the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association in New York State.  Megan was involved with therapeutic riding for over 8 years and is an Ontario Equestrian Federation certified English Riding Instructor, currently working towards certification as an EC Certified Level 1 Coach.
