Meet our Clinicians for 2010:

Sandra Andresen

Sandra has competed up to the CCI* level with multiple horses, as well as completing the long format CCI* at Midsouth, Kentucky

and at NAYRC 2004, and 2 Training level long format events at Belvoir.

Since 2006 she has been heavily involved in the grooming side of Eventing, and has groomed for Canadian High Performance riders

at many International competitions including:  NAYRC; Fairhill CCI 3*; Rolex CCI 4* (5 times);

the Pan American games in Rio, Brazil; and most recently Burghley CCI 4* in England.

She has also had the experience of flying with horses both to Brazil and England, and will be attending the

American Eventing Championships and the World Equestrian Games training camp in Florida this year.

Blair Nicol

Blair is 18 years old and has been riding for 7 years. She made her debut with the Oakhurst Team in 2007 with Power of 2 (Dino) at this very three day event. Since that time she has competed Power of 2 through the Pre-Training to CCI* level. The pair traveled to Ocala, Florida in the winter of 2009, where they competed at the Preliminary level. They completed two CCI*’s including Bromont and the Midsouth CCI* long format in Kentucky placing 4th.

This past fall Blair and Dino were chosen for the Kevin Armstrong Scholarship, in which they had the privilege of riding at the 2009 Canadian National Coaching Symposium with Ingrid Klimke, David O'Connor and George Morris. Currently Blair is competing her 7 year old thoroughbred gelding Top Gun (Ash) at the Training level with intentions to upgrade before heading down south for the winter. Blair is also a member of the Ashton First Field Pony Club with her C1 level status, with plans to test her C2.

Hannah Rankin

Hannah is 17 years old and has been riding for 8 years.  She has been Eventing with Oakhurst Farm for 5 years.

Hannah purchased her first horse Conflict of Interest (Billy) in August 2007 just days before the Oakhurst Three Day Event Clinic that year.  Since then, they have competed from Pre-Training to the CCI 1* level.

Hannah and Billy traveled to Ocala, Florida in the winter of 2009 to compete at Preliminary level.

This year, Hannah and Billy qualified and were selected to ride for Team Ontario in the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships at the CCI1* level held in Lexington, Kentucky at the Kentucky Horse Park. The Championships were held from July 28th to August 1st, 2010 and the Ontario team rode to a 4th place finish with Hannah placing 12th individually.

Hannah is currently training and competing her young 6 year old Thoroughbred gelding Timebomb (Yahtzee) at Pre-Training level.  She will be competing down south this winter with Yahtzee at the Training level and hopes to upgrade to the

Preliminary level by the end of their stay.  Hannah is also a member and Peer Coach of the Ashton First Field Pony Club.

Megan Bird

Megan is an Equine Canada certified Level 1 Coach and currently teaches students ranging from beginners to established Eventers out of Oakhurst Farm. Megan’s 14 years of competitive experience constitute the foundation of her coaching system. Through lessons, Megan gives her students the confidence and skills they need to build a strong horse and rider team in order to be successful on the competition scene.
Megan also strives to bring out the best in her students by continuing to be a lifelong learner in the sport of Eventing. She actively participates in clinics (Peter Gray, Jill Henselwood, Cara Whitham, Jen Hamilton and 2009 Canadian National Coaching Symposium with Ingrid Klimke, David O'Connor and George Morris as a coach) and is currently working towards her EC Level 2 Coach.
In addition, Megan is an active contributor to the Ashton First Field Pony Club, teaching and assisting at Pony Club rallies and quiz. She also holds a Bachelor of Education degree from Trent University and is a certified Ontario high school math and science teacher.
Megan has successfully competed to the Training Level and is still an active competitor, having campaigned her horse Chico in Florida last winter. She is currently competing her 7 yr old Dutch Warmblood gelding Absolut (Wodka) and 6 yr old gelding Notice Me (Aiden) at the pre-training level, intending to upgrade both this fall, before heading down to Florida in 2011.
After attending Midsouth CCI* in the fall of 2009 as a groom, Megan is so excited to participate and act as a clinician in the Oakhurst Farm 3 Day Event Clinic/ Competition!

Mark Nelson

Mark experienced his first taste of international success riding the ex-racehorse, Power of 2 (Dino). The pair enjoyed a 4th place finish at the Advanced Horse Trials at Morven Park, and were Long Listed status with the Canadian Eventing Team in 2006.  Now Mark is working with other promising event horses.   With Jasmine, a 6 year old Canadian Sport Horse, Mark is currently competing at the Training level, with plans to complete a CCI* in the spring.  Also a certified farrier, Mark operates Oakhurst Farm with his wife, Ruth Allum, who is also his coach. Together they have two children, Eric (2001) and Tatum (2005).

Ruth J. Allum

Ruth is the head coach at Oakhurst Farm. She is also the "brains behind the event clinic". Ruth's commitment is to the total physical and mental preparation of both the rider and the horse in the sport of Eventing. This event clinic is a product of her dedication to that purpose, and it is an example of Ruth's approach to coaching her more than 60 students at Oakhurst Farm.

Having competed herself at the Preliminary level, Ruth combines her real life experiences as an Eventer with formal training as an

Equine Canada certified coach. During her 17 years as a coach, Ruth has taken students from the beginning levels of Eventing through to high levels of international competition. Whether her students are competing at the Entry or Advanced level, they still receive the benefit of Ruth's careful attention to detail in riding, conditioning, and building a strong horse and rider team.

Ruth's students have reached very high levels of excellence. She has coached horse rider teams to the Provincial Championships, the North American Young Rider Championships, the Canadian Eventing National Talent Squad, and to a place on the Canadian Eventing Team Long List.
